Best Contact Form Plugins for WordPress 2016

Contact form plugins for WordPress wesbites have gradually been improving throughout the years (thank goodness).

However nowadays we are snowed under with new contact form plugins being released on what seems a daily basis, all of which offering new features, easier creation and fast implementation.

But what contact form plugins are easy to setup and offer the best experience in creation and styling to ensure that the contact form sits well within your website design and theme.

For the purpose of this contact form plugins for WordPress review, I have gone the extra mile for my blog readers and tested how long each of the contact forms take to build and embed onto a WordPress website. (Please note that these tests don’t include any styling or customisation, they are simply what is provided out of the box).

For many years, Contact Form 7 has been the go to solution when it comes to contact form plugins for WordPress for creating a contact form on a WP website and for it’s price tag (FREE), it does a good job.

There are however some other alternative contact form plugins that I will highlight below that offer you, the WordPress user, a bit more under the hood.

The following contact form plugins are in no particular order and I recommend that you check them out to make sure that they meet your needs before installing.

WPForms

With a cute logo WPForms may first appear to be a basic and friendly contact form solution but do not judge this book by it’s cover. WPForms is rich in it’s features and is intuitive in it’s user interface.

Much like Mailchimp, WPForms offers a simplistic drag-and-drop user interface that makes creating contact forms a breeze. If your in a mad rush to create a contact form then they also provide a nice selection of templates that you can click and embed to save you time.

I timed myself using WPForms to create a simple name and email contact form and it took us less than 90 seconds to create and embed the form onto our test WordPress website. For first time users of WordPress this may take a little longer however I found it lightning fast.

Take a look at the quick video demonstration below to see how easy it really is.

Features

  • Responsive & Mobile Friendly
  • Integrates with popular email marketing services such as AWeber and Mailchimp.
  • Online payment processing via Paypal with no coding required
  • Blocks spam entries
  • Embed contact forms anywhere by using the shortcode
  • Built in entry management system

Price

  • WPForms has a completely free trial that you can download and try.
  • Basic – $39 Per year
  • Plus – $99 Per year
  • Pro – $199 Per year
  • Ultimate – $349 Per year

The Bottom Line

An all-round great contact form service that is affordable, quick and easy.

Ninja Forms

Ninja Forms for me were the ones that really changed the way in which we created contact forms in Wordpress.

Ninja Forms has developed over the years and listened to their customers feedback and the result is phenomenal.

Now you can easily create contact forms, surveys, subscription forms and anything else you need a web form to do. The sky is the limit!

Similar to the WPForms, Ninja Forms uses a simple drag-and-drop interface which makes creating visual appealing forms easy.

Once again to test the system, I timed myself using Ninja Forms to create a simple name and email contact form.  I managed to create a good looking form and embed it onto our test site in 83 seconds.

The only downside at the moment is that there are no pre-built templates included, however they will be launching the templates in 1 months time in June 2016.

Just take a minute to watch the demonstration of Ninja Forms below to see for yourself.

Features

  • Responsive & Mobile Friendly
  • Drag and drop form builder
  • Integrates with popular email marketing services such as AWeber and Mailchimp.
  • Online payment processing via Paypal express payments
  • Spam protection
  • Use on up to 20 sites (Unlimited on the pro package)
  • Multi part forms
  • Pdf form submission
  • Built in entry management system

Price

Ninja Forms also has a free trial available to test before you buy but if you want to jump straight into it and creating amazing contact forms then here is the pricing:

  • À la carte – $19 – $129 Per year
  • Business – $299 Per year
  • Pro Membership – $499 Per year

The Bottom Line

A feature rich plugin that goes beyond the creation of contact forms. If your looking for having absolute freedom of customisation and features then Ninja Forms is highly recommended.

Jetpack

As a WordPress user you will likely have come across the Jetpack plugin from Automatic.  But did you realise that Jetpack also allows you to create contact forms?

Yes, I was surprised too!

To get started with the contact form module in Jetpack then you will need to activate it via the Jetpack settings menu.

Unlike the WPForms and Ninja Forms, you create contact forms inside the page or post editing page on your WordPress Dashboard.

Now, don’t expect too much magic here, this is a very basic and standard contact form but it is good for newbies of WP.

I ran another contact form creation test on our WordPress test site. I managed to create the form and make it live in 2:54 which yes was slower than our previous tests with WPForm and Ninja Forms.

Features

  • Basic form builder
  • Clean layout of form
  • Multiple form creation

Price

Free

The Bottom Line

For a free plugin then it’s fine for WordPress newbies. With a lack of features and customisation it’s  probably not for intermediate and advanced WordPress users and developers.

Contact Form 7

Look at any of the best contact form plugins for WordPress review sites and you will 99.9% of the time find Contact Form 7 on the list.

The reason for this is quite simple…it’s a really good contact form creation plugin.

It does have some downsides and the main one is the user interface, which is to put it nicely… Horrible!

Providing that you follow the instructions then you should be fine but it does require a little time to understand and create a form as it’s form builder is a HTML editor.

Contact Form 7 allows you to create an unlimited number of forms across your website that can be added to any page or post by copy and pasting the generated shortcode.

Now, what Contact Form 7 really lacks is a customisation feature and the bog-standard form is really plain Jane.

Until now!

I recently discovered TinyMCE Advanced. this beautiful free plugin add-on that allows you to customise the contact form 7 elements with zero coding required.

Although I have had a fair amount of experience with Contact Form 7 I did run a quick timed test. I managed to create the simple name and email form and make it live in 1:27 which yes was faster than our jetpack test but I would estimate this to take a lot longer for someone who is new to this plugin.

Features

  • Basic form builder
  • Clean layout of form
  • Multiple form creation
  • Simple shortcode integration

Price

Free

The Bottom Line

Contact Form 7 continues to be a fine contact form plugin even though it lacks a simple user interface and no customisation features out of the box. If you are on a budget then this form is for you.

If you need something that is a lot faster and offers more features and customisation then Ninja Forms or WPForms is more suitable.

Layered Popups For WordPress

Layered Popups For WordPress is a premium contact form plugin from the developer Halfdata. Even though this is a very recent discovery for me, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and what this plugin offered.

As does Ninja Forms, Layered popups for WordPress has a wealth of features and really goes above and beyond a contact form plugin.

Initially, this plugin is for generating subscription popups but it does a fine job of contact forms and lead links too making it a cheaper alternative to Leadpages.

Now, I am not going to lie to you, the user interface is huge and takes a little time to get used to. There is a very detailed user guide that comes packaged with the plugin however due to the shear amount of features, it is a lot to take in.

After getting familiar with the UI, I timed myself to create another simple, straightforward contact form on our demo site. I managed to complete the form within a swift 67 seconds. Which means that this was the fastest contact form to create and embed from our case study.

Features

  • Responsive & Mobile Friendly
  • Visual Constructor
  • On-load Popup
  • On-exit Popup
  • On scroll Popup
  • Inline Form
  • Sidebar Embed
  • Link Locker
  • A/B Split testing
  • Animations
  • Huge template library
  • Add your own images and graphics
  • And much, much, more…

Price

$19 (one-time payment)

The Bottom Line

Layered Popups For WordPress is a far superior contact form plugin for WordPress that is just bursting at the seams with features to create original and stunning contact forms.

Winning our timed test, this plugin is a sure fire hit and an absolute steal at only $19 for the full software, templates and 6 months support. This is in no doubt the best contact form plugin I have ever seen to date.

What can we expect in the future?

What is the future of Contact Form plugins for WordPress? Well we can clearly see that contact form plugins have come a long way since their younger days.

With WordPress plugin developers releasing improvements and making the way we create contact forms on our WP sites that speed up the process and make it less code heavy and more user friendly it is only a matter of time before an absolute WordPress beginner can build awesome WordPress websites with great looking contact forms at the few clicks of a button.
